New Year's Social 2020

As is becoming an established tradition, we held a New Year's Social in place of a Christmas party.

Peace Picnic 2019

In 2019 we revived the tradition of the Peace Picnic by the cherry tree in Cannizaro Park.

Hiroshima Day 2019

This year we made origami boats, which survived strong winds to sail across the pond in commemoration of the dead of Hiroshima.

Fete of the Earth 2018

Despite clashing with the Royal Wedding (we booked the date first!) the 2018 Fete was blessed with brilliant weather and well attended.

Barn Dance at St Andrew's

We had a very successful Barn Dance at St Andrew's Church in Herbert Rd which raised money for Médecins sans Frontières.

Hiroshima Candle-floating 2017

We set our new candle lanterns sailing on Rushmere this year in commemoration of Hiroshima Day.

Fete of the Earth 2016

This year's Fete in St Mark's Church Hall saw a record number of customers through the door!

Anti-Trident demonstration

The march and rally on February 27th was billed as the biggest anti-nuclear demonstration for a generation.

Don't bomb Syria

WDC/CND took part in the emergency "Don't Bomb Syria" demonstration called on November 26th 2015.

The great pink scarf turned into pink blankets ready to be sent off to refugees at Calais — September 2015

Wrap Up Trident

Seven-Mile Peace Scarf

The triumphant roll-out of seven miles of knitted pink peace scarf between AWE Aldermaston and Burghfield on Nagasaki Day, 9th August 2014.

Pink Knitting

We marked the International Day of Peace on September 21st by holding a Pink Knitting event outside Wimbledon Library.

Hiroshima Day 2013

We had perfect weather for our Hiroshima Day commemoration on Wimbledon Common.

Nuclear Fools

WDC/CND attended the national Nuclear Fools demonstration on April 1st at Aldermaston.

Muriel's 90th birthday

Member Muriel Wood celebrated her 90th birthday with the help of Bruce Kent and members of the group.

Winter Wonderland Parade

We dressed up to take part in Wimbledon's Winter Wonderland parade in partnership with other community groups on 29th November.

Food for Thought

The speakers at our final Food for Thought lunchtime discussion session were Sam Walton and Bruce Kent.

Armistice Day 2012

This year, we added a simple message to our red and white poppy wreath: "In memory of all the dead of all wars"

TUC demonstration 20 October 2012

WDC/CND took part in the big march against the cuts on 20 October.

Abolition 2000 Party 8 September 2012

We hosted a very successful fundraising event in aid of Abolition 2000, with an auction kindly conducted by Bruce Kent.

Olympic Celebration July 2012

A community Olympic Celebration took place at The Hub in Mitcham.

Jubilee Weekend June 2012

Jill Beauchamp created a Jubilee costume with peace crown which was shown off at both AWE Aldermaston and our own Mitcham Carnival stall.

White Poppies for Remembrance November 2011

This year a UNA Vigil for Peace wreath including white poppies was included in Merton's official Armistice Day commemorations.
